It is now generally understood that a diet that is heavy on plants and light on animal products is both better for the environment and also for our overall wellness. Making the change might seem overwhelming. Dining Services and the Office of Sustainability have teamed up to create the Ever Green Challenge to make the change easier and—dare we say it?—fun! Join us for a week in October and challenge yourself to participate in this plant-based program! 

What we hope to get out of this challenge

  • This challenge is meant to help WashU students understand that any change can be impactful; vegan diets are not the only way to have a positive impact—even thoughtfully replacing one meat-centered meal a week with a plant-forward option is an accomplishment that helps curb carbon emissions. 
  • This challenge will encourage WashU students to explore more plant-based meal options and become aware of different ways to enjoy a plant-based diet.

  • By showing students the carbon impact that they will have had during the Ever Green Challenge, we are hoping to inspire them to continue exploring sustainable lifestyle practices.

Detailed rules

  • Participants must be WashU students.
  • Log your plant-based meal via a quick online form.
  • The plant-based meal should be just that: a meal (i.e., not a bag of chips or a cup of black coffee!)
  • Any plant-based meal purchased at any WashU dining location is eligible to count as a meal.
  • Every plant-based meal will count as one entry into a final prize raffle.
  • Raffles will be capped at a maximum of 15 entries per participant.
  • Plant-based meals do not contain any animal protein or products, e.g., meat, eggs, dairy.
  • In 2023, the challenge runs from Monday, October 2nd to Friday, October 6th.


All participants are eligible to receive an Ever Green sticker. Raffled prizes will be announced on the event page.
