WashU Environmental Justice Initiative

The most vulnerable in society regularly struggle for access to a clean, safe, and healthy environment. The St. Louis region is home to some of the most egregious social and environmental disparities in the nation. “Environmental justice” represents one term used to describe a movement to help ensure a better, more sustainable quality of life for the present and future generations in a just and equitable manner.

Our initiative seeks to integrate environmental justice into Washington University’s teaching, research, and service by bringing together students, faculty and community members around key environmental justice concerns in the St. Louis metropolitan region. We focus on convening leaders to catalyze social justice/environmental justice collaborations; incorporating environmental justice sentiments into existing efforts; and educating and raising awareness about environmental justice issues.

The WashU Environmental Justice Initiative is newly established. To recommend resources, enhance the listing below, or to connect with the initiative, please contact sustainability@wustl.edu.
