Michael M. Bechtel is an Associate Professor of Political Science at WashU and a Research Fellow at the Swiss Institute for International Economics and Applied Economic Research. He teaches Introduction to International Politics, Globalization and Democracy, Managing Environmental and Economic Resources, among other classes.
Michael Bechtel’s research explores how countries can design policies to successfully address international economic and environmental problems. Current projects examine mass support for global climate cooperation, the politics of natural disasters, and policy responses to economic crises. Much of his scholarly work uses original survey data in combination with experimental designs and causal inference techniques to study solutions to major policy challenges. He is currently looking for a research assistant to become involved in ongoing research projects.
