Special Materials Collection: Election Signs

From November 6, 2024 at 12:00 am to November 14, 2024 at 5:00 pm

Nov 6 – Nov 14

WashU joins a regional effort to collection a new hard-to-recycle material: election yard signs.

Yard signs are made of corrugated polypropylene (PP or #5) plastic, the same type of plastic as yogurt containers and some other food service containers. However, due to their size, shape, and other factors, these CANNOT be accepted through curbside residential recycling programs, or through similar programs within WashU’s recycling program. For a LIMITED TIME only, special collection is possible to get the volume required for the recycling facility to accept and process the plastic signs and metal frames.

In addition to bringing in your personal signs from home, this program is a perfect opportunity for your office or department to purge any old corrugated plastic signs or metal stakes. With the new WashU brand roll out, if you are planning a signage refresh, PLEASE take advantage of this opportunity to recycle your old signs. The ability to recycle these signs will not be available again until the next election cycle, should the region effort return.

NOTE: Any type or size of corrugated plastic sign is acceptable.
