Green The Church Summit Brings the Community Together Around Issues of Social and Environmental Justice

On October 4th and 5th, St. Louis is hosting the 6th annual Green the Church Summit, a national initiative designed to tap into the power and purpose of the African American church community, and to explore and expand the role of churches as centers for environmental and economic resilience.

GTC empowers people of all faiths to be leaders in caring for the Earth, providing resources to educate, connect, and advocate for healthier communities.

WashU is supporting local capacity and coalition building by funding scholarship registrations for students and people in the St. Louis community. Students are encouraged to join some or all of the event, which will provide a unique opportunity to connect with a variety of community organizations and issues.

Highlights for WashU students:

October 4, 9a – 3:30p Break out sessions on building efficiency & water conservation, food sovereignty & public health, and Environmental Justice and public policy in the morning. A Green Bus Tour of neighborhoods and community organizations leading the Green Movement in St. Louis will take place in the afternoon. Limited bus transportation provided from the Danforth Campus.

October 5, 1:30p – 3p Dr. Mustafa Santiago Ali, Vice President of Environmental Justice, Climate, and Community Revitilization for the National Wildlife Federation and founder of Revitalization Strategies, will provide the keynote address. Bus transportation will be provided from the Danforth Campus.
