The transition to an all-virtual environment in the summer of 2020 has provided the opportunity to record some of the events we have hosted online. We have compiled the recordings here for those who weren’t able to attend, or just wish to get a refresher.

Story of Plastic

“The Story of Plastic” is a powerful documentary exposing how the plastic industry is harming ecosystems and communities. WashU alum Deia Schlosberg, who directed “The Story of Plastic,” joined us for a lively panel discussion about issues and solutions surrounding plastic production, consumption, and pollution.

In addition to Deia, panelists included Jenny Wendt, the Plastic Waste Reduction Manager for Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative, Cassie Hage, the Assistant Director of Sustainability at WashU and Andrew Watling, the Associate Director for Dining Operations at WashU.

This event was co-sponsored by Dining Services.

St. Louis EcoUrban Assessment

The St. Louis EcoUrban Assessment is a tool by The Nature Conservancy in Missouri (TNC) that both analyzes environmental hazards in the St. Louis region and lifts up the work of community networks, place-based organizations, and other anchor institutions working to ameliorate those risks. An ArcGIS StoryMap tells a narrative of environmental challenges, the communities most burdened by them, and the projects by community organizations that can serve as models for use of the tool in the future. An interactive map component accompanying the StoryMap allows users to choose specific environmental factors and community assets to map and view.

EES associate Julia Feller built out the tool with TNC, and she presents prior to its publication in August of 2021. She presents alongside Rebecca Weaver, Cities Program Manager at TNC.
