The Sustainability Team at Washington University continues to grow with the addition of its newest member, Heather Craig. Heather will be taking over the role of Sustainability Coordinator at the School of Medicine. Heather is located in the Operations & Facilities Management Department on the WUSM campus and will work closely with the Office of Sustainability and other university partners to implement and advance components of the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Operations, focusing on Waste, Transportation, Dining, Outreach, and Communications.
Heather is a Saint Louis native, recently returned from Maine. After earning a Master of Arts in Anthropology from University of Missouri-Columbia, Heather worked as a Research Specialist at Missouri Orthopaedic Institute, providing her with relevant healthcare experience relating to her role at WUSM. Realizing her passion for sustainability education, she then spent two years as an AmeriCorps member in the role of Energy Efficiency Coordinator at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, promoting energy efficiency and sustainability within the college and local community. Heather then transitioned to Outreach Coordinator for Maine Green Power, a program allowing residents the option to support local renewable energy.
Heather is honored and excited to join the growing sustainability team and to bring her knowledge of sustainability to the table. She is especially eager to increase community participation in sustainability efforts on campus, as she feels community driven interest is the biggest motivator for progress. Heather enjoys frequenting used bookstores to add to her ever expanding library and is attempting to learn the art of gluten free baking.
