April is one of two annual Active Transportation Months and the Office of Sustainability along with Parking & Transportation Services will be providing three free tune-up days on the Danforth campus*:
- Thursday, April 14th 10am – 2pm
- Wednesday, April 20th 10am – 2 pm
- Tuesday, April 26th 10am – 2 pm
*The Medical Campus will be hosting a free tune-up on Thursday, April 21st.
Please note: Tune-ups are first-come, first-served. You may drop off your bike into the queue if there is still availability. We will stop accepting bikes once we reach capacity or after 1:45 pm (whichever comes first).
In the case of inclement weather, the event may be postponed. Any last-minute updates will be posted on this page.
At the Bike Tune-up and Commuter Fair, attendees will have the opportunity to:
- Get a free bike safety check and basic tune-up done by mechanics from Big Shark.
- Register your bike for free.
- Interact with regional transportation non-profit organizations.
- Purchase a $25 U-lock from WUPD (students may pay via student billing, employees may pay with a check and show ID)
- Chat with WashU’s Sustainable Transportation Coordinator and receive a commute consultation to learn more about your transportation options.
Free Tune-Up Rules. Please review before attending.
- Tune-up services are only available to WashU employees, students, and basic service contractor employees.
- You will receive a text message when your bike is ready to pick up. If you cannot come right away, please pick up your bike by 2 pm when we will vacate the area. We cannot be responsible for stolen bikes.
- Each attendee can only bring one bike to the tune-up.
- Your bike must be registered prior to receiving a tune-up. If you haven’t already, register now to record important details about you and your bike. We will have your registration sticker ready for you at the event.
- Free tune-ups can last from 10-20 minutes per bike and cover basic maintenance only. Some part replacements may be available to purchase via credit card (tubes, brake cables, etc.) or will be referred to a bike shop if repair needs do not fit within the scope of the basic tune-up. Due to high demand for bikes and bike parts, your specific part may or may not be readily available.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email aamna@wustl.edu or rgilberg@wustl.edu. Becca Gilberg, Alternative Transportation Coordinator, will be on-site to guide you through WashU’s robust sustainable transportation program offerings.
