PLAN is a program that was created to address the amount of waste being created in our world on a daily basis. All Washington University Students have access to a free PLAN account.
Membership benefits include:
- Educational Online Tools: Best practice manuals, guides, budget and logistics templates, and program development workshops and skills training (including a leadership certificate). Topics include: to-go containers, zero waste events, composting programs, zero waste athletics, plastic-free campuses, effective campus tabling, conducting a waste audit and more!
- Partner Discounts: From B-corps to 1% for the Planet members, we partner with socially responsible companies to provide campuses with purchasing discounts on products and services that will foster program success. Products include tons of items that enable zero waste living: straws, water bottles, menstrual products, fix-it products, and more! These can be accessed by individual students, by departments, or by campuses ordering in bulk.
- Step-by-Step Advising: Campus Coordinators provide one-on-one program guidance for planning and implementing projects large and small.
- Nationwide Collaboration: Connect with other schools and students to learn what is working (and what’s not).
Through step-by-step advising, PLAN provides students with the necessary skills and information to implement Zero Waste initiatives on their respective campuses, all while connecting them with sustainable businesses, non-profits, and waste management professionals that will support the success of these initiatives. Members of our network are exposed to these relationships and best-practice solutions through our annual Students for Zero Waste Conference, compensated student internships, online tools, and sustainable products that incentivize engagement for program success. Ultimately, PLAN serves as a liaison for information sharing on everything Zero Waste.
