Sophia Dossin

Renewable Energy & Student Leadership

When it comes to sustainability, Sophia Dossin (BU 2021) is a force of nature.  She led the development of RESET, the Renewable Energy Student Engagement Team, which provided opportunities for students to learn about the rapidly growing renewable energy industry. Students in RESET studied and proposed locations for future solar installations on the South 40.  Sophia did not rest there. She then advocated for RESET to become an actual class. She  collaborated with the course instructor, Phil Valko, to develop many aspects the course, which launched in Fall 2019, with Sophia serving as one of the teaching assistants.  Throughout this same time period, Sophia served as leader of the student group Net Impact and served as a mentor to students through the business fraternity Phi Gamma Nu.

The two things that set Sophia apart are her ability to bring groups together across campus for social change and her refusal to give up or back down, even when her goal seems insurmountable.  Time and again, Sophia has achieved her ambitious goals, and she has made this campus a better place.
