Office of Sustainability Champion: Nick Annin

The Office of Sustainability has a dynamic team of interns who help drive the vision, organizational strategy, and leadership for advancing operational and cultural sustainability efforts at Washington University. This week, we continue our series of feature pos on each intern’s background and accomplishments.

Nick Annin is one of two superstar Green Office program interns. He is a junior majoring in environmental policy and minoring in writing. Nick joined the Office’s team in January 2015. He has supported the development of the Green Office program, which is a point-based, self-assessment checklist through which offices can evaluate their current practices, set goals, and be recognized for their sustainability achievements. Nick recruits offices to join the program, processes completed checklists, assembles plaques and other recognition items, and follows up with offices as needed. Next semester, Nick and teammate Sarah Greenberg will also manage a monthly e-newsletter designed to increase engagement with and between participating offices.

In addition to interning with the Office, Nick is Co-President of Net Impact, a student group that acts as a green task force by using principles of ecology and business to expand sustainability initiatives. He recently attended the United Nations’ conference on climate change in Paris, France. He was one of six student delegates representing the University and learned about the role that business and private finance have in a climate solution. Nick also plays safety on WUSTL’s varsity football team and is a DJ at KWUR, the student radio station on campus.
