Health Happening Fair at the School of Medicine

The 2016 WUSM Health Happening Fair took place on Friday, February 5. The fair featured representatives from WUSM departments and local businesses, who shared information, provided free samples, and answered questions on a variety of health-related topics.

The Sustainability Action Team (SAT) hosted a table in order to raise awareness about the SAT and encourage attendees to take the Green Monday pledge. Over 100 people committed to eating vegetarian one day per week to reduce the impact of their food choices on the environment. If everyone in the WashU community were to eat vegetarian one additional day per week, we would reduce carbon emissions by as much as 5,000 metric tons. That is the equivalent to taking 1,053 cars off the road!

The Green Monday pledge was the perfect fit for the health fair. In addition to reducing your carbon footprint, eating vegetarian can help reduce your risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity.

The SAT table also attracted a lot of attention with the pedal-powered blender that was used to make strawberry banana smoothies.
