Staff Day Sustainability Activities

May 21, 2018
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The 2018 Staff Day agenda features activities and events that immerse staff in the vibrant WashU campus and community, including several activities hosted by sustainability staff.

Sustainability Tour with Phil Valko, Associate Vice Chancellor for Sustainability

Meet at 1:30pm outside the lobby of the Athletic Center, near the bike racks. The tour will last approximately 90 minutes. No RSVP required.

The tour will begin at the LEED Gold Athletic Center and then weave through campus to Hillman Hall. During the walk, other topics such as rain gardens, green roofs, and pervious pavers will be discussed. At Hillman, the tour will examine the rooftop solar installation and other design features such as the sustainable landscape comprised of largely native species. Sustainability features of the East End project will be detailed with a birds-eye view of the construction site.

Ride your Bike and Explore Forest Park

Meet at 1pm south of Hillman Hall,  along the Forsyth bike racks. The activity will last approximately 90 minutes.

Join WashU’s Sustainability Coordinator and full-time bike commuter, Clara Steyer for a guided bike ride and tour around Forest Park. This ride is suitable for all skill levels, and the group will travel together at a slow to moderate pace. Bring your own bike or try out one of the shared bikes (Lime Bikes and Ofo bikes) that have been popping up around town. If you plan to use a shared bike, download the app in advance and pick up a bike in the area before the ride! Helmets and a full water bottle strongly encouraged. RSVP here if you are planning to attend.
